Alterations for Pony Boot Camp (XI)

It comes to little surprise that the final part of Skeleton Crew will take some time, and I honestly see January of next year as the soonest possible release date. One cannot rush art (so why rush rubbish then?). To fill the void, let’s do some more tinkering with PBC, as Alterations X was of course a chapter in disguise.

Part XV:

Once they had us back in the tack room, we were stripped of our gear.

is changed into:

Once they had us back in the ill-lit tack room, we were stripped of our gear.

The tack room’s small window is first mentioned in Part LIV, when Eleven and Seventeen try to break into the barn. Although it wasn’t stated before that the room does not have a window, I find it suitable to include a remark on its lighting conditions, poor as they may be.

Part XLVIII

He looked up from fumbling at a waspie lacing.

is changed into:

He looked up from fumbling at a waspie buckle.

The waspies used at the DACC are described as being “buckled, not laced” in Part XI.

Part XLVIII:

If the group leader had found Eleven’s book under my mattress – and nothing other had her remark implied –, she had also discovered the newspaper.

is changed into:

If the group leader had flipped through Eleven’s book under my mattress in a quiet minute – and nothing other had her remark implied –, she might have also discovered the newspaper after all.

In one of his comments (https://venomstories.wordpress.com/2023/04/14/10th-anniversary-to-be-continued/#more-2048) Filomene thankfully pointed out that Kandrin had found Eleven’s book underneath Seventeen’s mattress in Part XXXV, but not the newspaper our heroine was hiding with it. In Part XLVIII, however, Seventeen freaks out at Kandrin’s referring to said book, concluding that the team leader had also found the compromising print.

 “But Venom, you undisputed grandmaster of words, why did you contradict yourself on such an important detail”, you might ask in awe.

Because I forgot.

So through the power of retconning it is not anymore the mere fact of Kandrin having found the book, but having opened it (something she had not done in the still valid scene of Part XXXV) that rightfully worries Seventeen.
